In order to ensure the high demand for immunoglobulin (Privigen®), CSL Behring is building in cooperation with Pharmaplan as general planner at the Bern/Wankdorf site. Another milestone was reached in June: the start of the process qualification of Module V as part of the Protinus project.

By definition, this is a “brownfield” project for two new process modules for the production of immunoglobulin products made from blood plasma (Privigen®).

In the heart of the Bern site, the new process building borders on all sides of existing buildings or property lines. The new building integrates the existing logistics building into the Wankdorf area via old and new entrances and footbridges. The logistics building will be sheathed, rethought and extended by the new building. The scope of the project also includes realizing the entire superstructure without disrupting ongoing operations.

At the beginning of February 2017, the go-ahead for the basic design was given with Pharmaplan in the role of general planner. In late summer 2018, Pharmaplan also took over responsibility for the entire construction site by taking over the management of construction and is currently responsible for commissioning and qualification work in the role of C&Q Manager.

During the construction phase, which has meanwhile lasted 18 months smooth material delivery and removal was ensured. Thanks to the commitment of everyone involved, groundwater ingress was stopped, rainwater flooding drained and up to 100 companies and 300 workers coordinated on the construction site. The responsible action of everyone involved ensured safety on the construction site, which is reflected in brilliant safety statistics not only in Switzerland but also in a global comparison.

Despite the Corona crisis, all deadlines in the project were met . In this way, CSL Behring will continue to be able to ensure the supply of Privigen® in the future. This is another success of many, if you look back on the more than 20-year history of CSL Behring and Pharmaplan: The story began in 1999 with working on a site master plan for CSL Behring and Pharmaplan at the Bern site. In the meantime, many projects have been realized, including the Protinus project.
